Time Magazine is on our side, yes it is.

Magazine version includes picture of Steve Sanderson and Jean Hatch belting out a Stuntmen song

The Phone is ringing. I tried doing that one eyed thing hoping to focus long enough to see the incoming number and more importantly what time it is. That trick didn't work and I had to scurry for my glasses - I peered through the bifocal. 6:59 AM and the caller ID? "Mom" I want to ignore the call and resume the dream I was having about the beautiful lass who was dancing so enthusiastically during "Drunken Sailor" on Saturday night. Maybe one day I will get the courage to say hi to her. I pick up the phone anyway.

"Good morning, dear, did I wake you?"

"Well, sort of..."

"You know what Ben Franklin said once..." I interrupted

"You touch the key this time??" Mom's pretty quick and got the kite in the lightning storm imagery right away." She laughed a hearty laugh, which deteriorated into a cough. As she coughed away, I lay in bed thinking, "You can't spell smother without mother. She stopped coughing and her vocal abilities resumed.

"I got a free copy of Time magazine in the mail, and there's a picture of a Drunk Stuntman in there. It is the one with "Gitmo" on the cover. Do know that at Gitmo..." I perked up. And interrupted her again hoping to avoid another long-winded political discussion about the current administration and their policies.

"What?! Who is it? Is it a story about the Young @ Heart Chorus?" I remember Freddy Freedom telling me about a reporter from Time who showed up at one of their practices, which seemed like eons ago.

"Yeah, that's it the story is about them playing with the Young at Heart. Steve is in the picture." I motivate and get out of the house pronto. I stop at the newsstand for some Joe and check out the Time magazine on the rack. Flipping through, nothing. So I go to her house and sure enough there it is. It seems that this edition has a special section called Generations and was mailed to folks 55 and older. The title is "Rock on Grandpa" and sho' nuff there is Steve Sanderson at a Young @ Heart practice doing what he does best, singing his heart out.

It is a great article chronicling the history of the Young @ Heart chorus, where they have been and where they are going. It also mentions collaborations they have had in the past with other groups, including their current co-conspirators, the Drunk Stuntmen. The Young @ Heart along with Steve Sanderson and Fabulous Freddy Freedom are heading back across the Atlantic in October for two weeks worth of performances of the "Road to Nowhere" show.

There are plenty of opportunities to check out the Drunk Stuntmen this summer as they are touring up and down the East Coast. Never forgetting their roots and where they come from, fans in the Northeast are going to be treated to two special events at the Rt. 63 Roadhouse in Millers Falls. The first is the CD release party of their latest musical effort "Trailer Life" on July 16th. The second event is a two-day musical extravaganza, the Second Annual Rt. 63 Roadhouse and Drunk Stuntmen Horseshoe Tournament on Saturday and Sunday August 20th and 21st.
