STEWBOSS - WANTED A GIRL

An extraordinary record for a number of reasons, one of those being the fairly solid & heartfelt foreword by the band's frontman Gregg Sarfaty, who is obviously a fairly switched on individual. He's the main songwriter as well as the band's vocalist, providing us with some outstanding pieces of music along the way.

For those who are looking for a comparison, look no further than one of Gregg's own pointers, Bob Dylan. There's definitely a line to be drawn from a lot of Bob's music to that of the sound & feel of Stewboss' music that's an easy pick, complete with intelligent lyrics & some great sound quality as well. Style is a little harder to pick, but there's a hefty element folk combined with a rock/country feel to a lot of the songs.

Easy to pick a few favourites here, but much harder to separate those. Highlights & indeed favourites for me include the stripped back "A Walk In Spain" & "Never Be Loved" & the epic sounds of the title track "Wanted A Girl", which closes out the album on a real high. Very well worthwhile listening experience from a musician who really appears to be making music for the fans, not the dollar.
